Primary health care is any medical service that is provided outside the four walls of a hospital, including aged care, community health, general practice, custodial, schools and many other primary health care settings. Australia's 98,000+ primary health care nurses play a critical role in disease prevention and control to keep people healthy. They provide proactive care and health promotion to keep Australians well.
Nurses, students, professionals and employers: join APNA today for unparalleled growth and support in primary health care.
Media Release: 5 April 2020
An all-star cast of Australian celebrities have come together to thank the nation’s nurses for their courage and commitment during the coronavirus crisis.
Among those giving a shout-out to Australia’s nurses are Paul Hogan, Julia Morris, David Wenham, Shane Jacobson, Adam Hills, Libbi Gorr, Karl Stefanovic, Peter Helliar, Peter Hitchener, Kate and Phil Ceberano, Tim Ferguson, Georgie Gardner, Marg Downey, Tobie Puttock and Dolly Diamond.
They’ve recorded personal messages for a social media campaign launched today by the Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) with the hashtag #ThanksAussieNurses
The campaign is aimed at lifting the spirits of nurses for their critical role in fighting coronavirus. This includes the 82,000 primary health care nurses in general practices, aged care homes, Aboriginal health services, corrections facilities and other community settings across the country.
“We hope this puts a smile on the face of every one of these nurses,” says APNA President, Karen Booth. “It’s a great way to acknowledge their vital work as Australia tackles its biggest health challenge in living memory.
“We also want to thank all these marvellous celebrities who have volunteered their services for this campaign. The response has simply blown us away and shows how Australians support each other through tough times.”
Look out for #ThanksAussieNurses on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Nurses can also go to www.apna.asn.au to get information and support during this crisis.
