APNA Bursary Short Courses

Continuing professional development is a vital part of your career as a nurse. By doing the right education, you can enhance your skills, build your knowledge and ultimately grow your scope of practice.

APNA has created three in-depth education programs to help upskill nurses. These courses are a mix of self-guided learning, face-to-face education and expert support to help you along the way.

If you’re a nurse who works in rural, regional or remote Australia, you may be eligible to access the education fully-funded.

Health Workforce Scholarship Program

The Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP) provides scholarships and bursaries to help health professionals in rural, regional, and remote Australia retain and enhance their skills, capacity and scope of practice. It is available to multiple health professionals, including nurses who provide primary health care in non-government organisations and private practice.

The HWSP is an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Health. Eligibility criteria apply and you must work in one of the following areas to be considered for any Health Workforce Scholarship or Bursery.

  • Rural, remote and very remote: As defined as MMM 3-7 (2019) via the Department of Health’s Health Workforce Locator tool
  • An Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS): MMM 1-7
  • An Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS): MMM 1-7
