Share your experience of taking part in an APNA Program

Why share your experience?

Sharing your experience of taking part in an APNA program will help other nurses and their employers understand the benefits of joining. Our programs include:

  • Transition to Practice
  • Chronic Disease Management and Healthy Ageing
  • National Nursing Clinical Placement Program
  • Aged Care Nursing Clinical Placement Program

Reading about the experience of a nurse who has already participated in a program is usually just what's needed to take the next step and apply!

(If you are a student nurse who took part in our Clinical Placement Programs and wish to share your experience, please email placements@apna.asn.au first.)

How to share your experience

You can share your story in any way that feels comfortable for you.

Complete our simple form

  • We’ve put together an online form that guides you through a series of questions.
  • We'll turn your answers into a short article and send it to you for review before sharing.

Record a short video

  • Record a 1–2-minute video sharing your experience and why others should join the program.
  • You can do this on your mobile, just make sure you are in a quiet place with minimal background noise.
  • If you would prefer to be guided through recording your video, you can book a Teams or Zoom meeting.

Write down your story

  • Submit a short, written reflection (150-300 words) about your experience and email it to us. Check out our dos and don'ts section for tips.

Share a photo

We encourage you to share a photo to go alongside your story. You can take this on your smartphone.

  • Be professional: Wear appropriate attire, such as nursing scrubs
  • Respect privacy: Avoid including any patients, confidential documents, or identifiable individuals without their consent.
  • Good lighting: Take the photo in a well-lit environment for a clear and high-quality image.
  • Keep it relevant: Choose a setting that reflects your experience—for example, show that you work in a rural or remote setting or at a school.
  • Avoid filters and excessive editing: Keep the image natural and professional.

We also welcome photos that have already been taken, for example by your workplace - just make sure you have the photographer's consent.

Dos and Don’ts

Here are some tips for writing down your experience.

Do:

  • Be honest and authentic.
  • Keep it concise and focused.
  • Highlight specific examples that showcase the benefits of the program.
  • Mention how the experience helped shape your career or clinical skills.
  • Use positive and professional language.

Don’t:

  • Share confidential or sensitive patient information.
  • Use negative or overly critical language.
  • Over-exaggerate or provide misleading information.

How will we share your story?

Your story may be featured in part or in full on APNA’s website, social media channels, newsletters, our membership magazine Primary Times and other promotional materials.

We may also use excerpts for presentations, reports, and advocacy efforts to highlight the impact of APNA’s programs.

If there are any channels you would prefer not to be included on, please let us know.

We will ask you to sign our consent form. You can choose to withdraw your consent at any time.
