Primary health care nurses are key contributors to a digitally competent health system and prioritising the use of digital health technologies to improve service delivery and health outcomes is a key focus for primary healthcare. APNA continues to drive the growth of nurse capabilities and confidence to influence a constantly evolving national digital health system for safe, effective care for people.

2025 APNA Nurse Transformers Project

Digital Health Nurse Transformers

At APNA, we want to support nurses to grow their capabilities and confidence to use digital health tools to ensure safe and effective care for people. This is why APNA is collaborating with the Australian Digital Health Agency to transform how we use digital health in practice and ensure that digital platforms like My Health Record, electronic prescriptions and telehealth services are used routinely in primary health care.

Applications for the Nurse Transformer program are now CLOSED. Contact the team if you have any questions

My Health Record

The new my Health app

My Health Record (MyHR) is a secure online summary of key patient health information. It is immediately accessible and can be used to assist nurses to access information they need, to make more informed choices when caring for their patients.

The My Health App is a secure and convenient way for Australians to view key health information that has been uploaded to an individual's My Health Record.

National Nursing and Midwifery Digital Health Capability Framework

Developed by the Australian Digital Health Agency and Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH), in collaboration with APNA and other peak body organisations, the National Nursing and Midwifery Digital Health Capability Framework outlines the capabilities required to support individuals and organisations in extending their digital health development. The framework outlines core skills, knowledge and behaviours required for professional practice across five domains, and should be used as a resource to guide individuals, employers and educators to help support professional development and planning and to identify areas where knowledge gaps exist.

  1. Digital Professionalism: Professional standards are maintained in the digital environment
  2. Leadership and Advocacy: Digital health leadership and advocacy supported by clear policy
  3. Data and Information Quality: Data quality must be present
  4. Information-enabled Care: Care must be supported by rigorous data analysis and critical appraisal
  5. Technology: Technology needs to be understood and used appropriately
