Gout

Gout is a chronic condition which affects between 1.2 to 1.8 million Australians. Often undertreated or incorrectly thought of as an acute condition, it causes severe pain disability and impairment.  Patients living with gout often feel stigmatised and embarrassed by their condition.  Primary health care nurses can play an important role in supporting patients living with gout to help them manage uric acid levels, encourage adherence and to help them feel less stigmatised.
