Advocating for nurses in primary health care
This week (Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 October) APNA President Denise Lyons and CEO Stephen Duns met with politicians and health care leaders in Canberra, continuing the momentum from our recent appearance before the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability.
We know that nurses are already playing a critical role in the primary health care system, but they're ready, willing and able to do so much more if we can break down the barriers.
We talked about the Scope of Practice review recommendations, the insights from the APNA Workforce Survey, and the enormous difference that APNA's federally funded Nursing in Primary Health Care program makes in building and developing the primary health care nursing workforce.
They also highlighted the essential role primary health care nurses fulfil in our communities and sought ongoing support for APNA programs that support workforce recruitment and retention.
