News: APNA welcomes the new Shadow Ministry

Following the Federal Election, APNA continues to enhance our relationships with key government figures.  The latest development is the post-election announcement is the Shadow Ministry.  As always, APNA works constructively across the political spectrum, and we welcome:

Opposition Leader, Sussan Ley: Sussan was previously a Health Minister in the Abbott Government and has engaged positively with APNA, including speaking at its Gold Coast conference in 2015. We look forward to engaging directly with Sussan, the opposition leader.

Shadow Minister for Health and Aged Care, Senator Anne Ruston: Senator Ruston and APNA have engaged frequently particularly during campaigns including PHC Nurses Day and speaking at the Festival of Nursing and PHC Congress.  As an economist, Senator Ruston understands the value nurses bring to primary health care.

Shadow Minister for Regional Health, Sam Birrell: APNA will build its relationship with Sam in this role to make the case for strong primary health care and strong PHC nursing translating into strong rural and regional health. We’ll also work closely with the National Rural Health Alliance to make the case for further investment in rural health.

Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Zoe McKenzie: Zoe is a new face to APNA but holds the seat of Flinders in Victoria which was previously held by Health Minister Greg Hunt.  We’re looking forward to building a relationship with Zoe and working with the College of Mental Health Nurses to make a strong case for greater use of mental health nurses.

APNA will be working to ensure all PHC nurses are valued, visible and respected.
