The Festival of Nursing has always been about bringing nurses together. But in 2026, we’re taking it to the next level: it will be bolder and more practical than ever, designed to deliver the CPD every nurse needs. Plus, gain leadership skills and fresh thinking to help shape our profession’s future.
Primary health care is any medical service that is provided outside the four walls of a hospital, including aged care, community health, general practice, custodial, schools and many other primary health care settings. Australia's 104,000+ primary health care nurses play a critical role in disease prevention and control to keep people healthy. They provide proactive care and health promotion to keep Australians well.

In October, APNA’s Building Nurse Capacity team delivered the very first Cultiv-8 Nurse Clinics Workshop in Ballarat, partnering with Western Victoria PHN.

Twelve enthusiastic participants- including primary health care nurses, practice managers, and nurses working within an Aboriginal Health Service - have signed up for the eight-week course designed to build skills, confidence, and leadership in planning and running effective nurse-led clinics.
|
|
The first session explored the what, how, and why of nurse clinics, guiding participants to look at their local population health data to spot gaps in care where nurse-led initiatives could make a real difference. Over the coming weeks, the group will dive deeper into APNA’s Eight Nurse Clinic Building Blocks, covering everything from clinic design and evaluation to sustainability and patient outcomes.
The energy in the room was infectious, with participants saying:
“Really excited to help support the nurses to set this clinic.”
“It was great and really thought-provoking.”
“The girls presenting were amazing and engaging!”
There’s no doubt- the Cultiv-8 program is sparking new ideas and empowering nurses to lead the way in improving community care.
