Student Nurse Expo success at Festival of Nursing

APNA held its annual Festival of Nursing in Brisbane last week with one of the many highlights being our Student Nurse Expo.

Student nurses from Universities and TAFEs across Queensland and northern New South Wales were invited to join us as we showcased the many and varied career opportunities in primary health care (including aged care).

Our amazing speakers informed and inspired with Remote Area Nursing and School nursing highlighted as areas this next generation of nurses had not considered but were keen to now explore further.

Connections were made; job opportunities discussed, transition to practice programs highlighted as alternatives to hospital “grad programs” and pathways into primary health care careers bought to light.

Angela How, Manager Evidence Translation & Innovation at Brisbane South Primary Health Network (PHN) presented HealthPathways on behalf on Brisbane South PHN, Brisbane North PHN and Gold Coast PHN. This presentation fostered an understanding of the work that Primary Health Network's do and the programs that students can access.

APNA's National Nursing Clinical Placement Program was a focus with the messaging of “you can’t be what you can’t see” encouraging students to request a broader variety of placement opportunities outside of the hospital setting.

If you would like to speak to the Career Pathways team about student engagement or how you can support the National Nursing Clinical Placement Program email placements@apna.asn.
