Course Overview
Rates of overweight and obesity are continuing to rise in Australia.
- almost two-thirds of Australian adults (63%) are overweight or obese, and
- 10% more adults are overweight or obese than in 1995.
This online learning module will have an understanding of:
- the risks presented by obesity
- how to effectively communicate with patients, and
- how to effectively manage obese patients using the 5As framework. The 5As is an evidence-based framework for providing effective health care.
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) used the 5As in their clinical practice guidelines for the management of overweight and obesity in primary care.
These guidelines have formed the basis of this course.
